A man and woman are kissing in a beautiful setting. The woman is in front of the man while facing him and she is in a white polkadot dress. Her arms are up and around the back of the mans neck and she has her left foot raised as they kiss. The man is in a white shirt which is open and has beige shorts on. His right arm is around the woman's lower back and his left arm is by his side. They are in a tropic setting which is surrounded by trees and rocks which outline a swimming pool nearby and a villa can be seen in the distance.

#10 TIPS TO SAVE ON YOUR STAY

LOYALTY CAN BE REWARDING

With Booking.com you can gain extra discounts by booking stays through them and unlocking "Genius" discounts. These can give you up to 15% discounts, free breakfasts or room upgrades.

ALWAYS SHOP AROUND

Look at different providers, or use an aggregator. Most hotels and homestays have their properties on more than one site, and they can be listed at different prices. The same place could be cheaper on Airbnb than it is on booking.com.

CHECK YOUR PHONE

A lot of popular booking sites have mobile-only deals. We usually narrow down our searches to a few options and then check on our mobile. More often than not there will be a discount or promotion on at least one of the rooms. Sometimes It's a free upgrade or breakfast rather than money off, but it's always worth getting all you can for your money.

GO DIRECT

Always try contacting the hotel directly to see if they can offer a cheaper rate. If you do book through an app or site then you can always enquire when you arrive. See if they will extend your stay for less than the site costs.

TRY OFF-SEASON

If there is somewhere that is out of your budget then check out the offseason. Moving your dates around by a few weeks or months could land you the stay of your dreams! Flexibility almost always makes trips cheaper.

This image shows a young man and woman relaxing and spending time together in a luxury private villa. The woman is sat down to the right side of the image, on the edge of their private swimming pool and she is wearing a large white shirt, which is open and revealing her white bikini underneath. The man is walking towards her with baby blue shorts on and a white shirt open revealing his torse. The pool looks lovely and light blue as the sun glistens off it. The sky is clear and blue with only the occasional faint cloud in the sky. The villa looks incredible and very aesthetic. It is surrounded by tropical plants and trees that only add to the incredible experience.
A private villa can be within reach by changing your departure date by just a few weeks!

RESEARCH THE AREA

All cities and towns have more or less expensive areas. Try booking somewhere in a less expensive part, but right on the border. Maybe try a spot further away from the beach, but still within walking distance? Staying close to where the action also means you don't spend a bunch of money on taxis and trams, you just end up getting those extra steps in each day.

KEEP AN EYE OUT

Even after booking you may still find a great last-minute deal. As long as you book a flexible option in advance then simply keep looking to see whether a better place becomes available, or an incredible deal opens up.

A young couple are enjoying a floating breakfast in a beautiful pool with an amazing setting. The woman is closest to the camera, sat on the edge of the pool with her legs dangling into the water. She is turned to the side showing her side profile and is sipping her coffee with her right hand. Her left is placed on the basket holding the breakfast afloat in the water. The man in front of her is also sipping his coffee and he looks to have pancakes for breakfast. the woman has bread with eggs and she is wearing an elegant black two piece bikini with her long blonde hair flowing down her back.
Money saved on accommodation can help splurge in other areas

STICK AROUND A LITTLE WHILE

Long-term rentals typically come with incredible discounts, sometimes as much as 50% on Booking.com or Airbnb. That means you can get 1 month's stay for the same price as 2 weeks! We noticed the difference when island hopping recently. Shorter stays were costing a similar amount to months on mainland Bali! The more you can pay upfront the better your deal can be. If you've got the cash to pay 6 months up front then you don't need to worry about accommodation for a while, and it works out to very little per night!

STAY AWAY FROM THE MINIBAR!

Be smart with your money, and don't blow all the great work you've done finding a great place. The minibar is notoriously expensive! It's a convenience store for your bedroom, so you pay the highest rates for how easy it is to get. Keep your hands out of there and you won't get a heart attack when you see the bill at checkout.

PICK AND STICK TO A BUDGET

It's such an important aspect when travelling, and is relevant to any element of savings advice. If you set a budget then filter your searches to fit within that budget. In Bali, we set ourselves a maximum of £10 per night for short-term stays and £5 per night for long-term. There may be the odd occasion we spend more, but 99.9% of the time this is non-negotiable. With a little effort, you'd be surprised at the amazing places you can find that fit within your budget. If you need help keeping on top of everything then you can check out this budget tracker here.

This image shows a young couple in a swimming pool admiring an incredible view of the jungle and rice fields. There are some beautiful bungalows in the background and the water looks incredibly blue. The man is standing with his body pressed against the young woman as and he has short dark brown hair. the young woman is sitting on the side of the pool with her legs in the water and she is wearing a black two piece bikini with her blonde hair tied up. The pair are looking away from the camera. The day looks a little overcast, but the sun is still shining through.
It's nice to treat yourself every once in a while

There are a lot of ways you can travel on a budget without it hindering your experience. It's all about keeping an eye on your cash and being flexible. Always act fast when a great deal comes up!
